The postcard featuring the Houses of Parliament is decorated by an old
twinkle/mirrorback button that I bought.  See if you can find it as it
appears in a later photo.  Big prize if you can find it. (ha)

Still roaming London with buttons on my mind.  Today we went by boat . . .
the Thames Clipper to the Greenwich Market.  We “enjoyed” a rainy ride
as a sudden surprise (!) but later the weather turned nice.  It was finally a
taste of true London weather, so I rather liked it.  We found a Zizzi
restaurant almost at dockside and had a wonderful cheese/spinach
ravioli—hot and delicious after the cold rainy ride.

The Greenwich Market is indoors and specializes in antique dealers on
Thursdays.  On the same street was Papillon–a darling little knitting shop
where I bought two modern buttons:

At the market, I soon found “Julie”, who specializes in buttons, and I bought
a few old glass and buttons on original cards.  I don’t think I have any cards
at home that say “foreign”.

Another little set from this dealer were these cute Scotties! (Click on

Another dealer had a nice old lot–the lion and unicorn button at top center is
1 3/8″ in diameter; the mother-of-pearl square button is 2″ diagonally.
See the two old flowered Lucite buttons?
And the black and white deco buttons?  The deco button on the right has
funny holes—at the very, very edges, top and bottom.  The
other deco button has a brass shank.

That’s all for today–will have to write a book post next maybe–am having
fun book shopping, too–and reading.  Hey! did you find the brass twinkle
button?  Tune in again from London–for news and views.

The little sailboat button is sweet, but I just love the three little Scotties with the bus! They are looking right out at you. “Walkies?”

  2. Claire says:

    Those Scotties are too precious!
