Advent Calendar

This year I received an Advent Calendar for my birthday.  Yes, I’m a December birthday.

Do you wonder where the monthly “literary birthday” posts went?  Well, I started LAST December, so it would be kind of repeating.  Anyway, the important thing is that my birthday is in December.

The Advent Calendar gift is nice— a German Victorian Christmas scene with a large decorated tree, and Santa–nice one–and children cavorting about.  Toys are abundant.

I discovered by punching out December 1 that there was a chocolate behind the little secret door!  Ha!  Since my birthday is a little bit into December, I decided to “catch up” with the dates (and the chocolates).

Pleasant days ensued with the only problem being that usually I would have opened the new door first thing in the morning, but who can have a chocolate at that time of day?

So I chose mid-afternoon for the treats.   Then the gift-giver told me that there are little engraved scenes on the back of the chocolates.  Humph!  I’m afraid I had just been downing the bits without a glance at the backs.  I did look to see what the tiny little scene was behind the chocolate in the calendar—angel, cake, holly, candle, etc.

Yes! there are indeed embossed scenes in the chocolate–cute–little cottage, bird in tree, etc.  Must remember to glance at those . . .

About December 8th, in the afternoon, I sat eyeing the calendar, thinking that I could easily wolf down Dec 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th  and who would be the wiser if I shut the little doors again?  Ha!  Of course I didn’t.

But tonight, I’m afraid that I’ve eaten December 9th and 10th and 11th.

I don’t know what lies ahead . . .
