Girl Scouts 100th Anniversary!

Today, March 12, 2012, is the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Girl Scouts.

Where were YOU one hundred years ago?

Somewhere between 1912 and 2012 I was a Girl Scout, too—photo above.
I have great memories of the activities and goals and dreams.   I hope the Girl Scouts’
history in America is going to have a part in the Women’s History Museum project in Washington.  Have you heard about that project?

It’s fun to collect Girl Scout memorabilia.  It won’t surprise you to know I have some buttons . . . and a bit of old literature.  More another time—-but offer up a toast to the Girl Scouts on their day today.

Of course this whole YEAR will be the anniversary—so we can spread it out a bit.  Were you a Girl Scout?  What memories do you have?

You already know me---I'm in your book club. I've been in your book club in Wisconsin, in New York, in Missouri, in Connecticut. Now I'm in your book club in Pennsylvania. I love books! (I also collect buttons!) I'm looking forward to having conversations about books with people just like you----who also love books and want to talk about them. Send me an email: booksandbooks (at) me about a book you are reading. (or buttons of interest)

Love the photo! There was a great piece in our paper (off the AP feed) this week about a 110-year-old woman who was one of the first Girl Scouts, and who remembers that one of the first activities of her group was to sew their own uniforms.
If you Google “Millie England Girl Scout,” you can read about her.

You know, it’s kind of funny that we actually received our Girl Scout cookies today of all days!
